Kimberly Patterson

Kimberly relocated to Austin from New Mexico in 1980 to pursue her love and passion for herbal medicine. She had previously studied with many acclaimed Western herbalists such as Michael Moore and Jared Gann, and brought her skills to a local wholesale herb business started by Mark Blumenthal called Sweethardt Herbs. While at Sweethardt, she loved having access to the herbal library that is now the American Botanical Council and assisted with the distribution of the clinical journal then called “Herb News” which has now blossomed into the prestigious “HerbalGram” located right here in Austin Texas.

Her favorite job was managing another Austin herbal manufacturer, Herbs Etc. where she enjoyed studying, wildcrafting, and manufacturing every sort of herbal product from the fresh plant to the finished product. She also was responsible for organizing alternative medicine classes, which is where she was introduced to Chinese Medicine by Stuart Watts founder of Southwest School of Acupuncture, The Institute of Traditional Medicine, and the widely acclaimed Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin.

She left Herbs Etc. to operate her own tincture manufacturing business until being lured away by an Austin start-up, Whole Foods Market. She brought her skills in management and knowledge of alternative medicine to the Whole Foods Health and Wellness department as a buyer for 17 years. At Whole Foods, she enjoyed a career of traveling and training, organizing wellness speakers and classes as the health food store expanded all over the country. She continued to work at Whole Foods Market while receiving her Master’s Degree at AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine, also in Austin Texas. Kimberly was proudly among the first graduating class of AOMA. After receiving her degree, she traveled twice to Chengdu in Sichuan, China to do postgraduate work in oncology and gynecology and still dreams of continuing her studies there to pursue a PhD. Many of her respected teachers at AOMA are from that university and teaching hospital.

Kimberly is one of the founding members of Creekside Whole Health Center and has enjoyed a busy private practice for the past 25 years. Her specialties include infertility, gynecology, support for oncology patients, stress management, and pain management. She is well known throughout the Austin community for her compassionate bedside manner and extensive knowledge of both Traditional Chinese and Western Herbology. She has now expanded her study of body-mind medicine in the realms of Qi gong and meditation and finds it very helpful for herself and her patients.
